Can Yoga Cause Vertigo?

Vertigo

These 3 Yoga poses could make you dizzy and tend to trigger that “room spinning out of control” sensation. But here’s how to beat the Vertigo.
It’s a fact that Yoga relaxes you and does nothing wrong. However the feeling of hitting the wave of nauseous dizziness while doing Yoga, is the worst one. So why does this happen?
A certain kind of vertigo, or a “spinning dizziness”, could be triggered by certain yoga positions. The scientific name of this incident is known as Benign paroxysmal position vertigo (“BPPV“), a condition that causes tiny parts in your inner ear become dislodged and incorrectly stimulate the wrong balance nerves in one ear. Thus throwing off your entire body balance.
Seriously? We do Yoga because trying to locate our balance and this happens. Why do you think this happens to your body?
There are particular asanas that triggers this room spinning out of control sensation and this usually happens when your head is positioned below your heart. Here are the 3 yoga poses that could make you dizzy and tend to trigger Vertigo.

(1) Headstand (Sirsasana)

People don’t typically chill staying upside down. Inverting your body can cause all kinds of weird sensations. When you first begin this pose, you may experience a rush of blood to your head that can lead to dizziness or vertigo.
Further if you come out of this pose very quickly, the blood from your head will rush too fast to your lower extremities. This sudden rush is the reason to make you discomfort. So make sure you move our through this position slowly.

(2) Upward Bow Pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana)

Technically in this position your head is below your head, this too can cause dizziness. All inversions have the ability to make your blood pressure rise. So it’s preferable to consult a doctor before inverting, so you can avoid sudden dizziness and vertigo.

(3) Standing Forward Bend (Uttanasana)

Uttanasna one of the most relaxing and rejuvenating yoga pose. But if you come out of this position quickly, you’re likely to feel faint, real fast. Standing up too quickly from a forward bend can cause blood to move very fast toward your legs and leaving very little blood to fill the heart.

Apart from these…

Always remember to hydrate properly through the day. Because being dehydrated can cause blood pressure unstable and vertigo during Yoga poses. Once you are hydrated you should move through your yoga sequences very slowly.
