World Stroke Day is coming very soon and beside knowing what is stroke and warning signs, it is important to know some of the unconventional stroke risk factors out there.

STROKE:
If the blood flow to the brain is interrupted, brain cells can get damaged because they aren’t getting the oxygen supply they need. A stroke can affect you in different ways, depending on which part of the brain hasn’t received the blood supply. This can affect your speech, as well as the way you think and move.

Stroke is definitely a terrible disease which comes out if the blue unexpectedly making life completely different for the survivors. Thanks to medical advances for a better and meaningful life is still possible.

We all know about the conventional risk factors of stroke such as: high cholesterol, hypertension, smoking and diabetes mellitus (DM). We also know about the age and genetic risk factors which we can do nothing about.

Just like these risk factors we take care of; we now have to take notice of unconventional stoke risk factors.

Infection

The relation between infection and stroke was established by Neurology Journals. It showed that “18% of children with stroke had an infection in the preceding week, compared to only 3% of those that did not have a stroke.”

This helps to understand the hazard of infections and gives a strong reason not to skip the flu vaccinations.

Our lifestyle these days

There is one more unconventional risk factor of stroke. We all know that stress is no good for your health and thereby working long hours and high strain jobs are linked to stroke in adults.

Adding depression to this, you now have a dangerous trio pushing you towards the stroke risk. Some of the research also shows sleep apnea and insomnia could be also contributing as risk factors for stroke.
